The Welcome page says: this is Elspeth Crawford's transitional space... not-knowing what will happen ... but there will be something ... a philosophy for living with all around.

That’s it as far as ‘topic’ goes, unpacking the ‘all around’ concept will probably bring a focus on:

How do we think, what brings a change in mind, shift in culture, discovery in science, flourishing ways to live? How does a particular spark crack internal certainties, and bring change? Given the many seemingly intractable problems in the world, the repetitions of history, and the many wisdoms already practiced or in writing we can access, but regularly fail to heed, can another lot of writing spark new and generative possibilities for transformation? I believe changes happen both when individuals change minds, and also when they can enable change in the groups, cultures and institutions they inhabit.

I have a desire to show, or if not that, tell in very ordinary words and language, some ways that might be found that allow care for people, other creatures, and planet. I want to bring a mix of disciplines, and happenings observed, where readers may find expression of something they are familiar with, and then enjoy its juxtaposition with something else about which they know little or nothing. Can I cross bridges between topics or disciplines that are usually separate? Maybe, I will find out.

So I expect to post when I feel a response to something I am meeting with and between I Me You Them That-out-there. This is not going to be academic, I am not an Iain McGilchrist, references will be sparse, but enough to enable the start of a trail if you are curious and want to follow something further. A short biography:

Elspeth was once a little girl who loved (and shone at) maths and science, a graduate, then a teacher of nursery school children, then historian of science and teacher of physics, became a lecturer in education and a psycho-social practitioner enabling individuals and groups in social justice, emotional education, mental health and counselling. Now retired, she facilitates with the Climate Psychology Alliance, belongs to campaign groups e.g. Positive Money, enjoys blogging, creative writing, gardening and family. Longer biography here.

I am learning about SUBSTACK and what it offers me, and you. The following comes from the platform, tweaked a little by me.

Why subscribe?

If you subscribe to Uncommon Harmony, substack tells me you will get full access to the newsletter and publication archives.

I have yet to work out and enable ‘paid subscriber’ and what you might get from that. As I am one of those who has been lucky enough in the cards dealt from birth, although I am not wealthy even in western terms, I have enough, and am not interested in being paid for what I write. However, I am interested in returns of the ‘being engaged’ kind, and spreading help where it is needed. When I work out how to do it, if it is possible, I will create a payment process by which a variety of donations might be given to charities or community benefit societies of my, or your, choice. (There are some organizations I would not support, so when offered the choice will not be anything goes. ) Probably that will come in a post of some kind, or an update here.
